VERANO CEMENTERY

The Verano Cementery is a paradise for photographers. Decadent, as Rome is, hidden by the cypresses, the vegetation slowly took over the monumental tombs. Verano is an unusual whilst poetic dive into centuries of history and art.

Among the guests of this silent city within the city are the heroes that made Italy, such as Giuseppe, Bruno e Costante Garibaldi, Leonida Bissolati, literates and artists such as Giacomo Balla, Roberto Rossellini, Pietro Rosa, Trilussa, Grazia Deledda, Natalia Ginzburg, Edoardo e Peppino DeFilippo, Sibilla Aleramo, Alberto Moravia, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Gianni Rodari; actors like Ettore Petrolini, Alberto Sordi, Vittorio DeSica, Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman, and Raimondo Vianello.

Among the must-see art, the sculptor Lombardi eternalised sweet last kiss for the sarcophagus of his wife, Clotilde Podesti; the Zonca grave; the Giacomo Medici del Vascello monument; the bronze angel of the Levi-Coluccidi tomb by Giulio Monteverde.

Moreover, the silent decadence of a cemetery that mirrors an entire city, abandoned, and inherently beautiful.
